Job summary The Head of Clinical Engineering provides leadership and oversight to a health board wide team of technical and scientific staff involved in supporting clinical teams in the management of medical equipment, which includes its commissioning, repair and servicing and decommissioning. In meeting this challenge the Head of the Clinical Engineering provides expert advice and assistance to wide ranging staff groups and senior managers and directors on medical device issues and policy matters. The post holder provides scientific input to and chairs a number of key meetings in working to these aims and will strategically plan services with an ever changing landscape of patient care kept in focus. The Head of Clinical Engineering leads a specialist scientific and technical service team along with a wide range of service contractors, ensuring that work is prioritised to meet the clinical objectives of the Health Board and ensures this is achieved with value in mind and with risks identified and controlled. The Head of Clinical Engineering also oversees the medical device training function. Main duties of the job Lead the strategic management of the Clinical Engineering Department, including havingresponsibility for the provision of a comprehensive medical equipment service. Direct and manage the specialist scientific and technical services provided by the clinicalengineering function, ensuring that work is prioritised to meet the needs of the UHB, thatresources are managed effectively and risks to the UHB are minimised. Provide leadership and expert advice on medical device issues and policy matters. Initiate research programmes and undertake research and development projects. Act as the lead for Clinical Scientist Training within Clinical Engineering.
