Sainsbury’s is embarking on a major transformation of every aspect of its Data strategy. The new strategy will see significant investment in technology and people in the coming years. We have a market leading data asset spanning all our brands, with ambitious plans to:
1. Build a new Data & Analytics function that sets the business up for the next 3-5yrs,
2. Revitalise our end-to-end process for developing cutting edge data products,
3. Enhance our capability on data quality and value based demand management.
This is an opportunity to get in on Day 1 of an ambitious transformation. This role will be the data leader within Corporate Spoke, leading the Analytics team across Corporate functions and working closely with the Reporting and Data Science capabilities to deliver a business focused portfolio of projects which together support the realisation of our Next Level strategy. The Head of Analytics – Corporate reports to the Chief Data Officer, but is fully sponsored and supported by the Chief Financial Officer, Chief People Officer, Director of Property and Procurement and the General Counsel & Company Secretary who, together with the CDO, agree Head of Analytics performance objectives.
What outcomes I need to deliver
As the Head of Analytics – Corporate you will report into the and have four direct reports. You will lead a wider team of 24 analytics specialists across a broad set of domains including People Analytics, Logistics, Facilities Management and our Sustainability Program Plan for Better, ensuring that the team is motivated and engaged, with a clear and compelling EVP (linked to the overall D&A organisation EVP). You will ensure a strong performance management of the team by continuously aligning team performance to the needs of the business.
You will engage with senior leaders across our Corporate functions, to understand functional needs. You will function as a translator, working with information requesters and Product Owners to clearly define use cases and identify the most appropriate solution, before working with the Data Product Council to determine the correct delivery route using the demand framework for prioritisation. You will be accountable for the delivery of the agreed portfolio of projects into the Corporate Spoke, spanning analytics, reporting and data science.
You will play a critical role providing delivery assurance and deployment support for new information products, acting as a change agent, and ensuring solutions are well deployed and quickly adopted by the community. You will track success and drive a compelling value narrative that is understood and recognised by the business. Ensuring the timely delivery of information products, and the increased use of information across the Corporate Spoke, acting as the senior champion for data usage and resolving issues which restrict user adoption.
As Head of Analytics – Corporate, you will be an evangelist for the use of data and analytics solutions and spearhead the creation of a “data literate” and “data curious” culture through education, training, stakeholder engagement. You will work with the wider D&A leadership and community to share leading practice, discuss and test new ideas and to drive common use of information products across all DS businesses.
What I need to know and show
* As a Senior Data and Analytics leader, you must have proven experience in delivering value through data & analytics capability, and aligning analytics outcomes to the business strategy.
* Have proven track record of leading large teams of analytics specialists or similar in a dynamic business environment.
* Be able to demonstrate the ability to deal with many complex, ambiguous business requirements, and work with different teams to translate these into coherent requirements, then deliver against them.
* It is essential to have the ability to engage at all levels in the organisation, holding “peer-to-peer” conversations with everyone from the most junior colleagues to members of the Ops Board.
* Be a passionate advocate for the data needs of our supporting functions within the Corporate Spoke.
* Be able to translate business needs into technical requirements, bringing the relevant D&A capability to bear for any given use case.
* Be a data evangelist who effectively articulates the value of data & insights in business decision making to non-data “customers” in a clear and compelling fashion.
* You can mobilise and gain commitment and buy-in from fellow executives to drive real change through data.
* Have a deep understanding of data and analytics leading practice methods, technology trends, risk management and delivery processes. Also be conversant with reporting and data science methods.
* Have successfully led D&A teams through large scale transformations, including changes to operating models.
* Have a strong ability to positively influence indirect teams and to convene/collaborate with multi-disciplinary / functional teams.
* Have a strong ability to manage/prioritise multiple competing challenges across a diverse portfolio of activities.
* You will be connected with the wider D&A market and learn from other organisations and industry peers.
