Job Description
Our Human Disease Modelling group is seeking an innovative and dynamic Senior Research Scientist to play an important role in expanding our capabilities at the Oxford Research site. The successful candidate will help us utilize a range of technologies to test therapeutic hypotheses, discover novel target biology, characterize potential drug candidates and develop translational biomarkers. This position will involve working in close collaboration with other researchers and across drug discovery disciplines to ensure that we deliver medicines that treat the underlying cause of serious diseases.
General Summary:
The Molecular Cell and Biology Senior Research Scientist is responsible for experimental productivity and emerging creativity and versatility. The Senior Research Scientist designs and executes experiments for major research projects in the relevant areas of disease biology using patient-relevant cellular models and appropriate readouts of the disease or target mechanisms under investigation. Demonstrates resourcefulness in running multiple activities concurrently, all related to achievement of goals/objectives. Adapts to new projects rapidly and to multiple projects effectively ensuring alignment with corporate goals. The Senior Research Scientist commands a deep understanding of specialized discipline(s) and possesses diverse project experience and a broad panorama of (relevant) literature familiarity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Designs and performs technically challenging experiments
2. Distills complicated, multidimensional data to clear hypotheses and new experimental directions
3. Prioritizes own studies within Projects and balances activities across Projects effectively
4. Performs advanced experimental troubleshooting and methods development
5. Innovates on research methodology, in order to address more important questions
6. Scours relevant scientific literature within field and surveys broadly beyond own discipline/field
7. Imports new principles/concepts from other fields to develop useful new experimental approaches
Education and Experience:
1. Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines and 2-5 years of relevant post-doctoral employment experience
2. Strong cell biology background using a range of human cell systems and assays.
3. Versatile molecular and cell biology experience, ideally including flow cytometry, clonal cell line generation, and luminescence assays.
4. Proven track record for solving complex scientific problems and delivering high quality results, supported by evidence of significant individual contributions
5. Strong verbal and written communication and team working skills
6. Motivated and curious; happy to work across a broad range of biological subjects and projects in order to identify the molecular drivers of disease
