The school is situated in Guildford and supports boys aged 10-19 who have a range of additional needs associated with social, emotional mental health challenges. It’s a small school that offers a restorative, therapeutic approach to education and behaviour management. As a learning support assistant, you will be working in classes of 4-6 pupils with a staff-to-student ratio of 1:1. The school has recently been graded as ‘good’ in key categories such as leadership and management and behaviour.
Responsibilities:
1. Providing assistance and supervision for students before, during, and after lessons.
2. Assisting students to understand and participate in set tasks in an appropriate way.
3. Assisting with note-taking and supporting literacy and numeracy.
4. Working with a class, a small group, or individual learners.
5. Encouraging the development of appropriate social skills.
6. Ensuring accurate individual student records are maintained.
7. Helping to build confidence and motivation.
8. Participating in team meetings and training programmes as an active member of a team.
9. Working with managers and employees to support the developing culture of the organisation.
10. Following regulations pertaining to safeguarding.
Requirements:
1. An Undergraduate Degree (preferable) and/or previous SEN experience.
2. Good general education levels in English and Maths.
3. Knowledge, keen interest, or understanding of the range of different types of learning and behavioural needs (SEMH, PRU).
4. Ability to adapt to various working environments and students with differing abilities and unpredictable behaviour.
5. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
6. A caring attitude and a good listener.
7. Flexibility in terms of working patterns.
