Central Route sits at the heart of Britain’s railway network, covering critical commuter and freight lines in and out of Birmingham. It includes the Chiltern Main Line, the Snow Hill line, the Cross City line, and connections to cities such as Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall, and Oxford. Central Route is home to Birmingham New Street station, the busiest outside of London, with over 170,000 passengers daily. This route plays a vital role in supporting the UK's economy and connecting communities.

About the role (External)
A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network. As a Technician for Track Maintenance, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the track network, (also known as the Permanent Way or P-Way) to keep the railway safe and efficient. This is a very manual role as you’ll be working with rails, sleepers and ballast that support the trains, together with their associated drainage and ancillary structures. In addition to this, you will also provide support to the Team Leader to organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards.
Our Technicians work outside in all conditions, at all times of the year, day, or night and weekends. You’ll be involved in demanding manual work, often with the need to transport kit, across tricky terrain. Being safety focused, respectful of rules and a team player will be critical as you’ll often be working next to moving trains travelling at high speed.

Please note you will be based out of our Banbury depot but will be required to live in a 60 minute radius.

·Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience.
·Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
