In this role, you will work within the midwifery team to provide antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care to all women during their in-patient stay. You will have an important and valuable relationship with them, offering comprehensive health education, social care, and advice to women, collaborating with multi-disciplinary and agency groups to continuously enhance maternity care for childbearing women and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the care for low-risk women, promoting normal birthing processes, and work collaboratively with colleagues to support women with complex needs.
2. Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor, deliver culturally competent care, and conduct comprehensive health assessments.
3. Respect women’s informed decisions, plan and deliver evidence-based care, and advocate for women and their families.
4. Competently use medical devices, monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing, and uphold care standards in various settings.
5. Promote parent education, make specialist referrals, provide health education, and collaborate with child protection teams.
6. Participate in case conferences, diagnose and monitor labour, manage high-risk labours, and handle emergencies.
7. Provide postnatal care, pain management, perform procedures, and support breastfeeding, along with providing bereavement care and managing care transfers.
8. Engage in on-call duties, develop postnatal care programs, and participate in training and professional development.
9. Communicate effectively within the team, induct new staff, and mentor learners.
10. Manage day-to-day activities, maintain ward organization, ensure efficient patient processes, handle requisitioning, and promote teamwork.
11. Report incidents, safeguard patient property, participate in meetings and research, and be familiar with emergency plans and procedures.
12. Comply with all midwifery and nursing procedures.

Requirements for this role:
* Registered midwife on part 2 of the NMC professional register qualified
* At least 6 months recent UK NHS experience within the Midwifery Sector
* Completion of pre or post registration midwifery programme.
* Returner to midwifery practice.
* Ability to work autonomously within professional and Trust’s guidelines.
* Able to take the professional lead in caring for low-risk women.
* High level of commitment, motivation, innovation, and initiative.
* Ability to prioritise, good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Confidence to be an effective advocate for women.
* Able to cope with occasional traumatic incidents; stillbirth, neonatal and maternal morbidity/mortality.
* Ability to continually update knowledge, skills, and challenge practice.
* Safeguard patients’ property including valuables according to Trust policy.
* A team player that builds strong relationships with others both within and outside the business.
