The Department of Education is a founding department of the University of York. It is underpinned by our core values: fairness, respect, equality, and compassion. We are renowned for excellence in research, ranking 5th in REF 2021, and teaching, as recognised by our Teaching Excellence Framework Gold award.
Role
The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (0.5fte) to work on the department’s new PGCE Primary programme. The appointee will work alongside the Primary Programme Leader and develop teaching and learning strategy in relation to Primary ITT, and the design and implementation of the Primary ITT curriculum. They will also work alongside the current Director of Initial Teacher Training (DITT) to ensure compliance for Ofsted purposes.
The Department has a long track record of working with schools to deliver research-informed professional teacher training courses and already offers a secondary University of York PGCE programme and School Direct routes.
As a PGCE ITT Lecturer, the role includes responsibility for helping to design and then deliver the Professional Learning programme for approximately 20-50 students annually. The successful applicant will contribute to subject curriculum area teaching, particularly with expertise in phonics (research-based and/or a track record of successful teaching of phonics). Trainees on both the university-led PGCE and Lead Partner pathways benefit from internationally recognised academics and curriculum developers working alongside experienced teachers from local partner schools to contribute to course development and delivery.
