Group Learning Support is our largest provision across the group, with a wider team of 300+ staff members all playing a critical part to our students that require educational support throughout their learning journey.
We are seeking a dedicated SEN student support assistant to join our team at The Woodlands Centre.
The Woodlands Centre is a specially designed SEND facility featuring sensory and therapy rooms, classrooms, and gardens. It is a dynamic and fulfilling place to work where every day is unique!
The Role: SEN Student Support Assistant:
In this role, you will work closely with young adults aged 16 to 25 years old, particularly those with complex learning difficulties and/or care needs, within a supportive and nurturing environment. The curriculum focuses on the development of communication, independence, and engagement.
Class sizes range between 5-10 students, and you will work alongside the class tutor and other Student Support Assistants to provide personalised person-centred care on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping students to develop their confidence and independence skills both academically and socially.
As a SEN Student Support Assistant, you will support the students with their learning and general wellbeing to ensure every student has the best opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment.
This position offers an opportunity to significantly make a meaningful difference in a young person's educational journey which may include:
* Motivating and encouraging the student
* Liaising with the class tutor and a wider disciplinary team
* Monitoring and recording students’ progress and providing feedback to both tutors and parents
* Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies.
* Where necessary supporting with personal care.
What do you need to be a successful SEN Student Support Assistant at Activate Learning?
* Professional or personal experience of learning disabilities, or experience within the health and social care sector (not essential but would be advantageous)
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* A genuine desire to help students with diverse learning needs reach their full potential
* Patience and Empathy - An SEN student support assistant should be empathetic and understanding of the challenges students may face.
* Problem-solving Skills - Encountering challenges is commonplace in special education. An effective SEN Student Support Assistant should be able to think on their feet, coming up with solutions that suit
* Adaptability - the ability to adapt to cater to individual student requirements as and when required.
