Position Overview:
As an Apprentice Instructor at Skreens Park Activity Centre, you will deliver exciting and fun activity sessions to our guests, including Scouts, Guides, Schools (including those with additional needs), Youth Groups, Families, and adult groups. The apprenticeship consists of on-site training and attending external courses, leading to running sessions independently.
Our Apprentice Instructors are dynamic individuals with a passion for the outdoor industry. You must be confident, outgoing, and capable of engaging a group of people about your industry. You will represent Skreens Park and Scouting, needing to conduct yourself in a way that promotes our site, Scouting, and the Outdoors. Ensuring that children and groups want to return is a key responsibility.
Set in a rural area, we have an amazing 57-acre site with its own lake for water sports. The variety of groups ensures that every day is different, with seasonal changes in operations.
We provide all the training needed to be a role model for the young people who visit us. You will participate in a host of nationally recognized outdoor qualifications and in-house training courses, such as Archery GB, NSRA, ERCA high ropes, and Paddlesport Instructor training.
Key Responsibilities:
* Running activity sessions
* Hosting school residential parties
* Routine checking of equipment
* Setting up and taking down activity areas
* Working in the site shop selling snacks and drinks
* Maintenance of activity equipment (e.g., arrow fletching)
* Daily/weekly/monthly cleaning tasks (e.g., buildings, toilets)
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
* A history of working within the outdoor sector or training with young people (e.g., member of Scouting or Guiding, outdoor hobbies)
* A willingness to learn
* A proactive attitude and a readiness to embrace a new career path
* A Level 1 (GCSE Grade D/3) in Functional Skills Maths and English is essential
Location: Skreens Park Activity Centre, Skreens Park Road, Roxwell, Chelmsford, Essex CM1 4NN
You may choose to live on or off-site. Those living on-site will be accommodated in our modern staff house, which is purpose-built to a high standard. A small rent of £10 a week covers all bills and accommodation.

Upon qualification, we encourage you to apply for full-time positions within our team. Opportunities for career progression to lead instructors and senior instructors are available. We also offer further national qualifications to our full-time staff and are happy to establish personal training schemes for career development.
Hourly Rate: £6.40/hour – 35-hour week (this may increase if the Government raises the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage)
Working Hours: 35 hours a week – annualized contract (you may work longer hours mid-season and take these hours back in the low season, but will receive the same monthly pay for the entire contract).
