Key Duties:
Communication: Provide and receive routine information requiring discretion, sensitivity or persuasive skills. Exchange factual information with patients and other healthcare professionals using persuasion, reassurance, discretion, sensitivity and empathy as required. Assess communication needs of patients, anticipate where communication difficulties might arise and implement alternative methods of communication if necessary. Communicate any delays in a timely manner.
Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, carers, visitors and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Occasionally receive and communicate sensitive information from/to patients while respecting their privacy and dignity, providing a caring and confidential service.
Clinical: Develop and maintain a good knowledge of Radiology exams/procedures and associated requirements to ensure a safe delivery of practice/service. Contribute to the smooth running of the various departments on a daily basis. Undertake basic observations for patients as required, such as Oxygen Saturations and Blood Pressure. Develop own competence to deliver effective care through improving clinical/technical knowledge and skills.
Liaise with other healthcare professionals to arrange the timely transportation of patients. Assist in patient care, including helping patients change and explaining undressing/dressing requirements. Manage inquiries from both internal and external sources confidently and competently.
Education: Participate in the development and promotion of a positive learning environment. Support students and other Imaging Assistants through mentorship and local induction. Assist qualified staff in evaluating resources to develop high standards of patient care.
Administrative Duties: Register patients, update patient records, manage bookings, and perform all associated RIS activities. Maintain accurate records and demonstrate awareness of the importance of accurate data entry into hospital systems.
Infection Prevention Control: Ensure compliance with all Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures. Maintain high standards of cleanliness in examination rooms and clinical equipment.
Governance: Report incidents on the Trust risk management system and participate in incident investigations. Keep accurate and timely records of work and participate in audit projects.
Health and Safety: Maintain knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure compliance with Trust and Directorate Policies. Recognize emergency situations and initiate basic life support when necessary.
Working Conditions: Frequent use of VDU equipment and occasional exposure to distressing situations or body fluids.
Other Duties: Adhere to all Trust and Radiology related policies, participate in department organization and workload planning, and maintain personal and professional development.
