The Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Sussex have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Associate Specialist Psychiatrist to join their Sussex-wide team. This role plays an integral part in prioritising the delivery of a safe, effective, and caring service to young people (0-18 years) with Mental Health Difficulties and their families/carers within Sussex.
You will provide high-quality specialist clinical assessments, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigations to children, young people, and their families in a range of settings. You will work collaboratively with other members of the team to plan and deliver individually tailored treatment plans.
You will work as part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team which includes nurses, clinical psychologists, OTs, systemic family therapists, and child psychotherapists. This post will work alongside other Consultants and Specialty Doctors in Sussex ChYPS. You will also be part of a Trust-wide consultant network where there are opportunities to liaise with colleagues in other posts throughout the Trust and develop peer networks.

This post is based in the Brighton CAMHS team and has Named Doctor for Safeguarding responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
2. To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
3. To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
4. To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
5. To engage in medical appraisal and revalidation as set out in the Trust policy.
6. To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
7. To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval (if appropriate), and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
8. To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager.
9. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services.
10. To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders, and financial instructions.
11. Recognises and takes responsibility for safeguarding children, young people, and adults.
12. Applies appropriate equality and diversity legislation in the context of patient care.
13. Understanding and utilisation of the relevant legal framework provided e.g. MHA 1983 and the MCA 2005 is essential.
