Job Introduction
Senior Journalists working on the BBC’s live news channel, BBC News, are at the heart of our production operation. You’ll run live and breaking output as well as flagship programmes across the TV schedule and streaming operation. You’ll be engaged in both UK and international news agendas and understand how to make stories relevant for both.
Main Responsibilities
The main responsibility for a Senior Journalist is writing, building and driving high quality live and continuous news output at speed and with utmost accuracy. You’ll lead a team in curation, commissioning and outputting news coverage. You’ll manage, mentor and train Journalists, Journalism Researchers and freelance workers. You will need to be able to work flexibly as part of a 24-hour, 7-day a week rota. Overnight and weekend working is required.

The successful candidates should have:
* Outstanding skills in a live news gallery: reacting quickly, calmly and accurately to breaking news.
* Excellent communication skills including written and spoken English.
* Strong editorial judgement and confidence to make big editorial decisions.
* Creative approach to storytelling for TV, streaming and other platforms.
* Sound knowledge and clear understanding of UK and international news agenda.
* Excellent technical and organisational skills in building running orders, video editing and graphics.
* A commitment to and understanding of the BBC’s policy on diversity and inclusion.
* Ability to motivate others on the team.
* An understanding of changing audience needs in a digital news environment.
