Job Overview
This exciting new role will play a pivotal role in delivering Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust’s (SCFT) multi-award-winning sustainability programme, Care Without Carbon (CWC). The CWC team undertakes the delivery of this programme of work not only at SCFT but also in conjunction with other NHS peers, making this role essential for consultancy work toward delivering change across the Sussex region and further afield.
The post holder will be the subject matter expert and activity co-ordinator within the team on all matters pertaining to data, reporting, and analysis in all areas of the CWC Programme. This role will support the immediate team, the Trust, and its partners by using expertise in sustainability data to develop reporting tools and metrics to aid informed and timely decision-making to meet Net Zero Carbon commitments.
The post holder will maintain carbon footprints at SCFT and for partner organisations, working with various subject matter experts to ensure reporting aligns with national and international best practice guidelines on carbon accounting. They will also develop and maintain up-to-date carbon emissions trajectory pathways demonstrating how we will achieve net zero carbon in line with agreed targets.
Main Duties of the Job
* Be the Team lead and subject specialist for all aspects of data management and reporting systems.
* Maintain a log of all Team data and reporting outputs to ensure deadlines are met. Assist in reviewing these outputs’ methods, processes, accuracy, presentation, and relevance to operational needs or Sustainability Program delivery.
* Develop and lead an ongoing programme of improvement and innovation for the Team’s reporting, linked explicitly to Sustainability Program activity.
* Prepare Sustainability Programme performance reports and other data outputs.
* Be the Team subject specialist for carbon inventory standards and undertake training to maintain this.
* Take a lead/participate in specific Green Plan projects and programmes as required.
* Contribute to the development of departmental budgets associated with our consulting work and monitor delivery against spend.

Communication and Working Relationships
The post holder will support the Energy and Carbon Manager and other members of the Sustainability & Environment Team to deliver the Trust’s sustainable healthcare programme, Care Without Carbon.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary data, reporting, and analytical specialist within the Team.
* Manage the maintenance, development, and improvement of all data systems and structures.
* Oversee and coordinate all data, information, and reporting outputs from the Team.
* Develop and maintain up-to-date carbon emissions trajectory pathways.
* Support the Team with data management systems and structures.
* Be an expert data user and help stakeholders understand and interpret data.
* Maintain subject matter expertise in sustainability and carbon inventory accounting.
* Devise training materials and deliver workshops to support non-specialists.
Person Specification
Qualifications and/or Professional Registration
* Educated to at least Master’s degree standard or demonstrable equivalent experience in data management, analytics, and statistics.
* Membership of relevant professional body.
Experience
* Minimum of three years’ experience in a management information environment.
* Experience of managing data hierarchies.
* Minimum of two years’ experience in using varied and complex data sets.
* Experience of undertaking carbon inventorying in a large organisation.
Skills and Knowledge
* Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of key themes in sustainability and climate change.
* Highly numerate with excellent analytical skills.
