Public Health Senior Officer (Health Protection) Permanent Grade 5 - £41,511 - £49,764 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week The Public Health Division at Birmingham City Council includes sub-divisions focused on Healthy Behaviours and Communities, Children and Young People, Adults and Older People, Knowledge, Evidence and Population Health Management and Environmental Public Health and Health Protection, and is part of the Strategic Partnerships, Insight and Prevention Directorate of the Council. We have an exciting opportunity to join our multi-disciplinary public health team in a permanent Public Health Senior Officer role working to the Public Health Service Lead (Health Protection) on leading the delivery of Health Protection work areas. The role is designed for people with the experience and ability to autonomously lead the delivery of Health Protection work areas. It will give experience in applying previous public health skills and experience in a dynamic public health department. There will also be opportunities to gain experience across other Health Protection areas and this will provide candidates with professional development opportunities in-line with the Public Health skills and knowledge framework (PHSKF) and support with working towards Public Health Practitioner registration. The role will work on delivering key Health Protection workstreams including (but not limited to) screening, extreme weather, oral health, emergency planning, preparedness, and response; and community engagement around key health protection issues. Beyond supporting the delivery of our key workstreams, the role will also provide the opportunity to matrix manage the Public Health Officer – Health Protection. A key part of the work is responding to health protection incidents, and this role will provide the opportunity to support and lead responses to complex Health Protection incidents, working with organisations such as UK Health Security Agency and NHS Birmingham & Solihull ICB to protect the health of residents. The post holder must have experience of managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, as well as experience and skills relating to project management and statistical analysis/epidemiological methodologies to support evidence-based working.
