Description The Service & Team: The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Youth Justice Service is aims to prevent and divert children from anti social and offending behaviour and support children and communities to live without crime. We currently have a 1.0 FTE Youth Justice Service Officer post to work county wide with a specific role - offering support to victims. As a service, we work with children and their families who are at risk of offending and those that have entered the criminal justice system. We are passionate about ensuring that we improve victims’ experience of the justice system and ensure that they are offered opportunities to be involved tin a number of ways:- Have their voice heard and be listened to Be provided with information about the outcome of the case Have the opportunity to express their opinions and have theirr point of view heard Gain answers to the many questions they may have such as “why did this happen?" The Role: Based within the Gweres Tus Yowynk Specialist Adolescent Service, this post offers exciting opportunity to join a highly experienced multi-disciplinary Youth Justice Service. As we look to enhance our service to victims in response to the Victims Code of Practice you will advocate for the voice of victims in our work and be responsible for a range of support options including opportunities to engage in restorative justice, reparation and mediation. We know that many victims of crime have found that becoming involved in the criminal justice process helps them to deal with the anxiety and anger they feel following the crime and can contribute to feelings of safety. You will use your skills and understanding to facilitate this essential work. The role will include involvement in triage and close partnership working to ensure that decisions around youth justice outcomes are defensible and balance risk, public and victim safety with the child’s needs. You will have a relevant qualification and have experience and knowledge in statutory youth justice work or work with victims. You will need to demonstrate a good knowledge of legislation and current research relevant to this area of work. You will also have an understanding of adolescent development and behaviours, have excellent communication skills and be able to embrace challenge. You will have a proven track record of working with multi agency partners to improves the lives of children and young people and communities. You will be able to evidence how you have applied your learning to your practice. This role is an opportunity to lead in a particular area of service delivery and develop effective practice across the service and partnership in relation to victims. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and processing sensitive information. You will be provided with appropriate training and development and benefit from professional supervision and support and be offered a wide range of professional development opportunities across a range of topics.
