About this client/child: Tom, aged 6, is an energetic and loving boy who lives at home with his mum and dad. He thrives outdoors and is happiest when playing with water—he excels at swimming and enjoys all kinds of water play. Tom also loves watching Hey Duggee on his iPad, building forts and camps, and spending time outside playing football. Once a week, he attends a gymnastics session, which he enjoys. Tom has been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Condition, Hypermobility, and Hypotonia, and he is preverbal. He requires full support with social, emotional, and language development, as well as personal care. He currently presents with some behaviours that may challenge and has sensory-seeking tendencies. Tom benefits from reassurance, prompting, supervision, and guidance in activities, social interactions, language development, and with his emotional and behavioural needs. He dislikes, coughs, sneezes, waiting in line, and crowded spaces. Transitions can also be challenging if he is deeply engaged in an activity. To support his development, Tom attends speech and language therapy twice a week and currently participates in morning sessions at school.
Overview of role: We are looking for a dedicated and energetic SEN Nanny/Manny to provide full-time support for Tom. This role is all about building a trusting relationship with him while implementing effective strategies to support his social, emotional, and language development. Tom thrives on play, both indoors and outdoors, so his SEN Nanny/Manny should be active, proactive, and enthusiastic about engaging him in physical activities. He communicates effectively using PECS, so experience with this system would be highly beneficial. The role will involve encouraging play and outdoor activities (weather permitting), supporting Tom in managing his behaviours through tailored techniques, assisting with toilet training and personal care, preparing meals, and carrying out light domestic tasks related to him. We’re looking for someone who is fun, engaging, and able to recognise when Tom needs personal space. As he responds well to routine and consistency, a patient and structured approach is key. Tom is not currently attending school full-time, so having someone who can support his learning and development is essential. However, he will also require regular movement breaks and downtime. If you have the experience, energy, and compassion to support Tom’s development in a positive and active way, we’d love to hear from you!
Who this job would suit: This role is ideal for a professional and experienced SEN Nanny/Manny with expertise in supporting young children with ASC, including those who are non-verbal. The ideal candidate will be emotionally resilient, with a strong track record of implementing effective strategies to support language development and manage challenging behaviours.
What’s great about this job: This is a wonderful opportunity to support the whole family and grow a trusting bond with Tom to continue his ongoing development. Opportunity to participate in twice-weekly sessions with a trained Speech and Language Therapist (SALT).
