Description JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE DEPARTMENTAL MANAGER JOB HOLDER MICHAEL SCHOLES DEPARTMENT MECHANICAL & DRIVER SPECIALIST TRAINING (MDST) LOCATION PTQ – 1 RSME (Wainscott) PTQ – 3 RSME (Minley) RESPONSIBLE TO 1) Head of Training (HoT) SUBORDINATE STAFF 1) Phase Manager 2) Training Support Administrator (TSA) 3) 17 Trainers 4) Storekeeper SCOPE Managerial Appointment. The post is based at 1 Royal School Military Engineering (1 RSME) - Wainscott Site, where PTQ is part of the Holdfast consortium (Public, Private Partnership PPP) contracted to provide training and support to the Royal Engineers and wider MOD. ROLE REQUIREMENTS (to hold or be working towards as directed by your Line Manager) ESSENTIAL · Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills · Track record in planning and delivering successful training programmes appropriately within resource. · Operational experience managing a plant fitter based workshop · Operational experience managing Driver Specialists within Lifting Operations. · To work within the departmental budget and assist in the control of costs · Highly Developed Analytical, Negotiating, and Persuasive Skills · Multi-task and manage change effectively DESIRABLE · 3 Years qualification experience · Experience and/or qualification in Education, Business and/or Human Resources · A Health and Safety qualification; construction/plant safety preferred · Military Experience as a Quartermaster and Motor Transport Officer · Experience working with the military ideally at the RSME. · Familiarity with training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations etc.) · Full UK Clean Driving Licence DESCRIPTION · The Departmental Manager is part of the Senior management Team (SMT) who is to provide a Training Schedule specifically for MDST to meet the Authority’s demand as listed in RSME PAM3b; to include Driver Specialist and Maintainer training for MHE, C Vehicles and other Equipment platforms on the dates specified and as required on an ad hoc basis (pre deployment training (PDT)). · To manage, control and co-ordinate all staff involved in the delivery of the training of both Regular and Reserve soldiers attending formal PTQ Courses. They will also plan, implement and re-enforce Health & Safety policy in the work place giving critical advice to meet current legislation. SPECIFIC DUTIES · To manage, control and co-ordinate instructional teams involved in the training of both Regular and TA soldiers attending formal Military Driver Specialist, Mechanic and Fitter Courses. · Provide Health & Safety advice. Plan, implement and re-enforce Health & Safety policy in the work place to meet current legislation. · Carry out any other reasonable task as deemed appropriate and commensurate to the grade. RESPONSIBILITIES · To communicate honestly with your Line Manager · To be responsible for your own time and attendance at work · To achieve deadlines/targets that have been set by your Line Manager · To work within the departmental budget and assist in the control of costs · To assist your Line Manager to implement change within the department · To communicate and liaise with all other departments, as required · To assist your Line Manager to work towards the Business Plan and OKRs · To work within the Company's Information Management System (IMS) procedures · To assist in working towards & maintaining the advocate standard (PTQ Staff Survey) · To conform with Health and Safety at Work Regulations and environmental issues · To conform with actions necessary in cases of accident or fire · To undertake/perform other duties associated with this role, by agreement · To act as an ambassador for the Company · Stand in for Head of Training when requested · Carry out any reasonable request by line manager
