Job overview
Applications are invited for a full-time substantive consultant post in Paediatrics with special interest in Epilepsy and Neurology at Lister Hospital, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. It will be desirable (but not essential) to have previous experience and training in Epilepsy and Neurology at tertiary hospital level. We also welcome applicants who wish to develop Neurology/Epilepsy as a special interest (SPIN) post-CCT. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Paediatrician who wants to join a friendly and supportive Paediatric team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a 1:12 on-call Consultant rota, working weekdays and weekends covering Acute Paediatrics. The post holder will undertake both general Paediatric and Epilepsy/Neurology clinics. They will be supported by our current senior epilepsy specialist Consultant, Epilepsy specialist nurses, and our regional Paediatric epilepsy network (EPEN).

Qualifications and Training
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
* CCT or equivalent in Paediatrics (or be within 6 months of CCT) / CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
* MBBS or equivalent
* College Membership (MRCPCH) or qualification of an equivalent level
* Level 3 (or equivalent) training in safeguarding and experience of safeguarding work
* Evidence of being up to date and fit to practice safely, and aware of own training needs
* Valid BLS Training
* Postgraduate academic degree
* APLS/EPALS/NLS instructor
* Broad range of experience in Paediatrics
* Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
* Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
* Experience in organising educational activities
* Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
* Demonstrable experience and participation in research
* Published papers and original work in peer-reviewed journals
* Demonstrable experience in paediatric epilepsy/neurology
Skills
* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
* Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
* Ability to effectively teach clinical skills
* Ability to critically appraise published evidence
* Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
Knowledge
* Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
* Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice
