Job Description
A Data Architect is responsible for producing and maintaining data designs meet the needs of the business and/or project. They use these designs to guide data integration, control data assets and align project data architecture delivery with business strategy. They:?produce and maintain data models, data lineage diagrams, subject area models and other data artefacts to support the project and ensure alignment with business strategy ?provide advice to project teams and oversee the management of the full data product life cycle?are responsible for ensuring that the organisation?s systems are designed in accordance with the enterprise data models?Develop and maintain data models and other data lifecycle artefacts to describe the as-is and to-be landscape?Build and maintain data glossaries and dictionaries?Ensure alignment of the project models with business strategy?Ensuring that project data architecture quality is sustained and measurable against Defra standards?Work alongside Enterprise and Delivery Architecture to ensure that projects and programmes deliver designs and artefacts that align to those of Data Architecture Framework?Endorse the use of Data Standards for the organisation, including for data modelling and appropriate templates and guidance ?Establish an overall perspective on business issues, events and activities, and an understanding of their wider implications and long-term impact. This could include determining patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements.Data modelling ? experience of different modelling notations (UML, Dimensional, NoSQL, Data Vault, ORM, Barker Notation)Experience of Data governance forums and methodsKnowledge of industry wide data standards and ability to develop and set data standards for an organisation. Ability to communicate the business benefit of data standards, championing and governing those standards across the organisation.Understanding of Metadata and repositories, and ability to design and maintain the appropriate metadata repositories to enable the organisation to understand their data assets.Able to turn business problems into data designAdvanced knowledge of Sparx EAAble to communicate clearly and concisely to explain the value of data models, and use the most appropriate medium to visualise data to tell compelling and actionable stories relevant for business goalsUnderstands reference data, transactional data and master data
