Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. We provide expert palliative care at a time when people need this the most. We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure, and lung disease by combining specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms with emotional, practical, and spiritual support.
About the role
In palliative care, no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit provides a unique opportunity to care for patients with a variety of conditions and symptoms. Our clinical team leaders manage a team of Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, ensuring the effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for our service users. Some of the duties of this role include but are not limited to:
1. Recruitment, induction, development, supervision, and appraisals of team members
2. Rota management including the provision of out of hours services
3. Managing and assessing risk
4. Auditing and monitoring quality standards
5. Deputising in the absence of the Head of Clinical Services/Ward Manager
About you
If you're ready for a new challenge in your nursing career and have a minimum of 5 years' experience as a Registered Nurse with an interest in palliative care, this opportunity is for you. Our ideal candidate will have:
1. Experience of working in a leadership role within Palliative and End of Life Care
2. Evidence of additional, role-specific qualifications and professional development
3. Proven skills in leading, building, and influencing in a clinical setting
4. Knowledge of current legislation within the independent care sector
5. Demonstrable experience of practicing in a self-directed and highly motivated way
6. Effective verbal and written communication skills
7. Negotiation and conflict management skills
8. Able to effectively manage change and performance
Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role, and full training/competency assessment will be provided. There is plenty of scope to develop your skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
