Position Title: Maintenance Technician/Engineer Location: Glasshoughton Reports To: Site Maintenance Manager Direct Reports: None Position Purpose The Technician/Engineer is accountable for the throughput and maintenance of washing machinery, ensuring full production capability and monitoring critical control points. The role demands strong problem solving, continuous improvement focus, and adherence to preventive maintenance schedules. Locations: 1 (with occasional support to other sites) Major/Key Accountabilities * Ensure efficient and safe operation of tray washing equipment, minimizing downtime. * Accountable for equipment reliability, safety measures, and functionality. * Proactively identify and rectify potential issues with short and long-term solutions. * Deliver high-quality repair work, preventing recurrent faults. * Work independently and efficiently, utilizing strong fault-finding skills. * Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities. * Monitor and document quality process parameters (TF024). * Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and maintain accurate records. * Communicate effectively across shifts within the maintenance team. * Support and communicate with machine minders for process optimization. Measures * Improved cost per tray washed via equipment uptime. * Contribution to annual £1 million cost saving. * High Site Productivity and Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE). * Accurate, timely Smart Spanner updates. * Compliance with paperwork and maintenance schedules. * Identification of productivity, quality, and safety improvements. * Effective engineering communication and knowledge sharing. Authority/Decision Making • Stop production in critical safety or equipment failure situations. • Request planned maintenance downtimes. • Order necessary parts for repairs. • Advise on optimal staff placement within the wash process. Mechanical training (C&G, NVQ Level 3, ONC) covering bearings, shafts, component assembly. IOSH or equivalent Safety Certification. HACCP Level 2 Certification. Desirable: Apprentice Trained Engineer. HNC in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical). NEBOSH Certification. HACCP Level 3 Certification. Fabrication and Welding experience. Experience • 5 years in an Engineering/Maintenance role in an automated environment. • Experience in high-pressure FMCG environments. • Experience with monitoring and adhering to Critical Control Points (CCPs). Skills and Knowledge * Electrical fault finding and testing, using schematics. * Experience with inverters, servo motors, motor testing, PLC I/O interrogation. * Pneumatics fault finding and circuit design. * Mechanical maintenance on conveyance systems (bearings, shaft alignments). * Mechanical fault analysis and repair.
