1. To ensure the highest standard of repairs are carried out to the manufacturers specification, specifically relating to the paint process

Specific tasks:
This job holder must be able to:
1. Receive vehicle, job card & Quality Control (QC) forms from panel shop and check quality of repairs, taking remedial action if necessary
2. Ensure that QC form has been completed by Technician who previously worked on vehicle and Senior Technician has countersigned when applicable
3. Ensure that all parts have been stripped from vehicle and that it is an appropriate condition to receive paint treatment
4. When additional parts are required, a supplementary form should be filled out and placed in the appropriate tray or given to the workshop controller/bodyshop estimator in order to gain authorisation and order.
5. Document any other vehicle problems noted during repairs and seek guidance from workshop controller/bodyshop estimator if necessary
6. Ensure that vehicle internal car care kit fitted (seat covers, steering wheel cover and floor mat) to prevent dust transfer
7. De-grease the area to be treated
8. Sand down the relevant areas and adjoining areas for blending purposes
9. Mask out area to be treated
10. Etch and prime area to be treated
11. Bake the vehicle in the oven, setting temperature according to the vehicle requirements.
12. Carefully remove the vehicle from the oven once it is cooled
13. De-mask vehicle
14. Flat the primer to prepare the surface to receive top coat of paint
15. Degrease the area to be painted
16. Carefully position the vehicle in the oven or a controlled area and mask the vehicle in preparation for application for top coat
17. Select match and mix colour chips to match vehicle
18. Wear appropriate protective clothing, apply one or more top coats to vehicle as required
19. Bake the vehicle in the oven, setting the temperature according to the vehicle requirements
20. Carefully remove the vehicle from the oven once it is cooled and de-mask
21. Complete by flat and polishing and visual checks
22. Check final finish and colour match
23. Carry out final checks on the vehicle after repair in line with quality control checklist attached to job card. Tick appropriate sections and sign off. Request Senior Technician to review work and countersign.
24. Ensure final check sheet and job card leave the department with the vehicle
25. All adhesives, primers, paints and bonding agents should be stored with the use by date and opened date clearly marked with a permanent marker
26. Participate fully in measurement and feedback processes, to complete and return personnel documentation on time and to embrace personal training and development opportunities
27. Work to support other team members in achievement of their objectives when asked to do so or required by their manager.
Knowledge and skills required:
This job holder must have knowledge of:
1. Automotive systems (e.g. basic vehicle layout, function and location of parts)
2. Basic knowledge of parts requirements to complete job and the ability to communicate parts requirements via repair orders
3. Approved and established procedures for replacing components
4. The quality control and inspection requirements of the Bodyshop department
5. Manufacturers products and recent improvements through Paint Manufacturers, technical bulletins, training courses and technical magazines etc
6. In-depth knowledge of manufacturer paint repair processes, paint products, features, use, limitations etc.
7. The tools to be used for appropriate operations, together with maintenance procedures and practices
8. Protective clothing/footwear/masks to be worn for specific operations
9. Safety procedures for all bodyshop equipment
10. The use of computer systems for paint mixing
11. Manufacturers standards and objectives, retail facility and individuals objectives, both cultural and financial
12. The company organisational structure
