The BASF Agricultural Specialities Limited production site in Littlehampton, produces industry leading biological pest control products formulated from beneficial nematodes. These products are used by farmers and growers across the globe in agricultural, protected ornamental and home and garden markets. This role will include on-call duties. Responsibilities As Fermentation Technician your responsibilities will include: Operating and maintaining various types of equipment in production and utilities, including vessels, centrifuges, filters, boilers, compressors, generators, chillers, and effluent holding tanks. To prepare, sterilize and set up inoculation and fermentation vessels and complete vessel transfers. Ensuring necessary checks are done in the inoculation and cooking process. Troubleshooting equipment and process issues and ensure escalated as appropriate and conduct necessary process equipment maintenance e.g. cleaning and changing filters. Support the Fermentation Supervisor in operational tasks. Qualifications Educated to A Level standard (with at least one science) or B.Tech National or equivalent qualification (Ideally Engineering/Bio Technology or similar). A good standard of maths is required (minimum GCSE Grade 5). Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment and have a mechanical aptitude and a good understanding of machinery/equipment and requirements for operating and maintaining them e.g. pumps, mixers, valves etc. Knowledge and implementation of Lean/modern manufacturing principles is an advantage. Ability to work accurately and quickly in a time target pressured environment without close supervision. Following written procedures, safety compliance and demonstrating good attention to detail.
