Come and do the kind of engineering that made you want to be an engineer. Stretch your technical skills while building human understanding. Promote sustainability and create new materials. And, alongside world-leading scientists and technologists, shape projects that improve lives, and daily life, in the UK and far beyond.
Put simply, come and discover the impact you can make when you’re equipped, encouraged and inspired to perform to your very best.
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe’s largest research organisations. We’re trusted to support, enable and undertake pioneering projects in an amazing diversity of fields. Through world-class facilities and people, we’re driving ground-breaking advances in science, technology and engineering.
We have an opportunity for you to lead a small team of highly experienced engineers in the National Microelectronics Support Centre (NMSC) who provide training in, and support for, complex modern industrial integrated circuit design and analysis tools. This activity addresses the needs of more than 650 universities and research labs throughout Europe under the Europractice brand. In addition, we work with university spin-outs to help commercialise their designs, and have roles within significant UK national activities.
In addition to managing the group and managing its projects, you will form part of the NMSC management team, with responsibilities for EC project deliverables, reports and reviews as well as drafting and submitting new project proposals.
Key activities include:
1. Set the technical agenda within your group, to ensure that the capability to work with the leading edge technologies and techniques is constantly maintained.
2. Respond to new technical challenges as they emerge, including, but not limited to, the use of AI and ML in design, the shift to cloud-based offload and entirely new methodologies introduced for system design.
3. Lead the development of short courses on a range of technical subjects.
4. Develop the technical and personal capabilities of your staff, assisting their career growth while also building the capabilities required by the NMSC strategic plan.
5. Help secure the future of the NMSC by securing project funding and participation in European and UK semiconductor initiatives.
