Senior Engineer – Verification & Validation Kidlington Full-time Perm 40 hours per week THE POWER OF NOW Fortescue Zero’s mission is to be the world leader in zero emission power systems. We are developing and manufacturing the technologies needed to decarbonise our planet. We are expanding across the geographies of UK, US and Australia and becoming a global company. As part of Fortescue, our vision is to be the number one integrated green technology, energy, and metals company. An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer – Verification & Validation to join the Requirements and Validation department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. About the role The role is to manage the Verification and Validation activities on major programmes, heavy industry or automotive. You will lead the verification and validation activities throughout the program. Working with the wider program team you will take the product requirements and prior experience to define a design verification plan (DVP), advise on optimum test-asset quantities and schedule the tests. Supporting the test and validation teams (who are responsible for carrying out or monitoring the tests) you’ll ensure development and sign off testing activities are completed to project timelines, adapting to changing availability of parts and facilities and recover from unforeseen issues to minimise risk to the programme. The role will suit individuals with a passion for electrification or cutting-edge engineering and is seeking a strong team-environment, within a high-paced culture. What you will do Leading Verification and Validation activities through all stages of a program. Creation and Management of Design Verification Plans (DVPs) to ensure efficient and timely completion of product test programmes. Consolidates the requirements / DFMEA / legislation-lead tests into a plan which has been optimised given the constrains on test assets, facilities and child-component maturity. Aid with trade-off negotiations and mediate where required between attributes and/or system groups to resolve DVP conflicts and ensure the optimal balancing of test requirements vs timing / cost / risks. Works with Requirement Engineers, System Engineers, Integration Engineers and Test groups to identify and select the appropriate test to verify a requirement: including both physical and virtual verification activities. Report out of DVP status to all levels of the business (including gateway presentations). Ensure concerns are raised on relevant test failures and track progress through to closure. Supports the creation of supplemental design verification methods and/or recommends revisions consistent with technology evolution and changing customer needs. Collaborates with Requirements Engineers, System Engineers, Integration Engineers, DVP and Validation Engineers to develop test and durability cycles to reflect customer usage. Critical appraisal of DV activities to confirm that they are appropriate, thorough and realistic. Is aware of risks and can propose mitigation activities to maximise the likelihood of a smooth DV phase. Influence senior engineers across legacy methods of working with increased knowledge and methods of improvement. Interact with Business Development Group to provide commercial insights for potential bids/tenders; including estimation of required testing budgets to support accurate RFQ responses. Carry out limited development testing when resources, workload and prioritisation require. Coordination of benchmarking activities. Infrequent global travel may be required to fulfil operational duties. About you Proven experience in the automotive, motorsport, off-highway or aerospace industries in 1 or more areas: Electrification, energy storage systems, ePowertrain, power electronics, body or chassis systems. Experience managing DVP programmes at various stages of a design maturity from early proof of concept models and mules, through prototypes and on to full production unit verification/validation is essential. Can demonstrate scheduling and planning skills; including a balance risk-based approach to the provision of contingency. Must be able to work autonomously and take the initiative; The individual will not be isolated but will need to push forward by themselves wherever possible and know when to ask or support/assistance. Knowledge across 1 or more core systems of an electrified product e.g. thermal, energy storage, control or propulsion. Able to work collaboratively to resolve challenging situations. An engineering qualification (e.g. Degree) in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering. Knowledge of JIRA, Polarion or Teamcenter would be advantageous. What is in it for you?
