About the role
The post-holder will be responsible for managing data and student records, and for developing and maintaining data and record management systems, throughout the student journey from pre-application to post-graduation, for all undergraduate and postgraduate taught students in the Department of Materials, including records relating to student attainment (coursework and examination grades). The post-holder will also take a pro-active role in supporting digital teaching and learning tools across the undergraduate and postgraduate taught curricula, including management of software licenses and computational servers for specific modules.
What you would be doing
Background: Student records and teaching administration data are kept partly on central College systems and partly in-house within the Department of Materials. It includes, but is not limited to, information regarding:
* Student registration, progression and attainment
* Student mitigating circumstances
* Selection of elective modules, and selection and allocation of projects
* The personal tutorial system and monitoring student engagement
* The assignment and management of graduate teaching assistants
* Programme and module specifications and student handbooks
* The assignment of laboratory and tutorial groups
* Learning and teaching materials hosted on virtual learning environments
In relation to the above, key responsibilities of the post-holder include:
* Developing and maintaining a digital student records and administration system
* Integrating departmental and central College records and systems into a single database
* Supporting the Student Office in maintaining student records and preparing information for Exam Boards
* Providing support and training to staff to ensure best practice in information management
* Protecting information integrity (e.g., systematic backing up, and systematic error checking of exam and coursework marks)
* Protecting information confidentiality (e.g., access control to sensitive information such as student mitigating circumstances), whilst at the same time enabling staff to have appropriate and relevant information readily available to them in the most appropriate form
* Documenting systems thoroughly to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience
What we are looking for
* A degree (or equivalent), or equivalent significant work experience in a similar role.
* Experience of computer programming
* Experience of managing databases
* Experience in producing clear and concise written material for guidance and decision-making purposes
* Experience of developing applications and/or software for the use of others
* Experience of managing confidential information
* Experience of using and/or managing virtual learning environments such as Blackboard
* Experience in complex project planning and case tracking in the workplace
* Experience of managing computer networks and/or servers
* High degree of computer literacy
* Advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Sharepoint, and Microsoft PowerApps
