To work as part of a team taking a lead role in providing secretarial support for the consultants and junior medical staff within the team, with particular responsibility for audio typing using a digital system.
The post holder will be required to demonstrate a significant level of initiative in organising their workload and in making decisions and taking action in accordance with departmental policy.
Responsibilities include:
1. Typing all correspondence relating to outpatients and inpatients, including departmental correspondence, with a low rate of errors and meeting Trust turnaround targets.
2. Regularly liaising with the manager to ensure departmental priorities are met.
3. Managing consultants’ diaries, booking meetings, and taking minutes where appropriate.
4. Arranging patients' new and follow-up appointments as required using the PAS system and liaising with appropriate departments.
5. Receiving enquiries from patients and staff, resolving enquiries of a more complex nature and dealing with them appropriately.
6. Liaising professionally with all departments regarding admissions, waiting lists, ad hoc ward attenders, and cancellations, ensuring hospital policies are adhered to.
7. Providing cross cover for the secretarial team during annual leave and sickness.
8. Co-operating with the introduction of new procedures, policies, or technology, including any technology associated with the Patient Administration System (PAS), assisting team leads with implementation.
