Senior Supplier Quality Engineer

The core mission of the Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) organization is to assure that supplied parts/services meet Moog quality requirements. The Level III Engineer performs SQE tasks of moderate/high scope and complexity. This person's role involves the application of advanced SQE principles related to Moog hardware and processing. Key tasks include leading initiatives that support supplier and customer needs, improve Moog products, and delivered quality, using an advanced analytical approach to solve supply chain adversity.
The jobholder must have excellent judgment, interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to work on several assignments concurrently under pressure to achieve business goals. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to describe complex problems in a concise manner are essential for this position. Act as a commodity type specialist for allocated workload, e.g., OSP, Raw Material, Machining, or Electrical interface devices.
Principal Accountabilities Include:
1. Evaluate supplier performance and take actions to improve the quality associated with supplied products while working collaboratively with other functions in the achievement of overall SQE responsibilities.
2. Frequently interact with internal and external customers and suppliers dealing with supply chain issues and assist with the development of SQE resources and tools to meet the needs of our customers.
3. Supplier Evaluation: The Supplier Quality Engineer is the primary interface with Moog suppliers for quality issues and is expected to keep the supplier informed of all activities related to supplier performance, beginning with initial and follow-up supplier evaluation.
4. Problem Solving: Resolve complex dimensional and process issues within the supply chain to reduce delivery impacts including implementation of robust root cause preventative and corrective actions at supplier’s facilities.
5. Supplier Performance: Responsibility includes the performance of on-site surveys to schedule, source inspection activity, Supplier performance history analysis, and supplier corrective action.
6. Site Support: Provide Senior SQE support at daily meetings to understand and resolve production build-related supplier quality issues. Validate all “return to vendor” NC’s to ensure robust non-conformance descriptions are provided.
7. Collection and Analysis: Monitor and measure supplier performance data from the Moog TipQA database to support supplier continuous improvement activities.
8. Supplier Audits: Conduct supplier on-site evaluations to determine compliance with Moog and Industry Standards.
9. Quality Clinic: Provide a lead role in communication and root cause analysis for all Supplier Quality related issues.
10. In addition to Level, I, and II typical tasks and responsibilities, Level III also:
11. Supports the development of procedures, tools, checklists, and systems to help manage supplier quality and to systemically identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain.
12. Leads and manages supplier improvement efforts for assigned suppliers, employing structured problem-solving approaches and advanced quality tools (SPC, PFMEA, control plans, MSA, etc).
13. Regularly supports external/internal audits as an SQE subject matter expert.
14. Regularly participates in cross-functional business process improvement efforts as an SQE subject matter expert.
15. Regularly supports and often leads customer interactions and reporting regarding supplier quality issues (NOEs, CAs, customer audits, etc).
16. Leads and manages internal/external source inspection resources and associated activities.
17. Persuasion and Collaboration: Incumbents may be placed in difficult situations with suppliers and internal stakeholders, sometimes requiring difficult and unpopular decisions, while retaining professionalism and objectivity, and always striving to resolve problems collaboratively.
18. Quality Orientation: Incumbents are expected to have a strong quality orientation and to prioritize quality and product integrity, even under internal or external pressure to accept parts.
Travel Requirements:
In addition to Level, I & II travel requirements, these roles typically also require international travel 2 ~4 times per year.
Communications:
Cross time-zone communication and frequent meetings with suppliers, customers, and other Moog sites.
Required Qualifications:
1. Degree in engineering/technical discipline or relevant quality manufacturing experience.
2. Specialist technical experience, qualifications, training, and skills may be required depending on the exact job context: For example, metallurgy, industrial chemistry, processing knowledge, metrology, Moog product knowledge, GD&T, machining, electrical components.
3. Source Inspectors and SQEs should have experience with measurement equipment such as surface plates, height gages, micro height, gauge blocks, CMM equipment, etc.
4. Proven experience with gage R&R studies, gage correlation and MSA is highly advantageous.
5. Proven experience with formal problem solving and quality improvement tools and techniques (5-why, Ishikawa, RCCA, 8D, DMAIC, etc).
6. AS9100 lead auditor training/certification is advantageous.
7. In addition to the qualifications, skills, and experiences listed for Level I and II, Levels III should have:
8. Lean / 6-sigma training / certification (green/black belt).
9. Zero-defects, APQP/PPAP training, and proven experience.
10. Project Management qualifications, skills, and proven experience.
