Young individual requires support to develop social skills
Preferred days/times:
Weekends during term time, flexible during school holidays
Tasks/duties:
Travel training, money management, support to do household tasks, cooking lessons, building social skills and self-confidence, improving stranger danger, street wise, learning what to do if approached by a stranger, road safety awareness, managing outings, possible volunteer opportunities (how to find these). Learning basic life skills for going into adult life.
The PA will need to have their own vehicle with a full, clean, UK driving licence.
Client main diagnosis:
Down syndrome, Learning difficulties.
He struggles with social skills; Speech can be an issue.
Can be impulsive, so needs guidance to stay on task.
He has trouble processing and understanding information.
Communication:
It would be useful if the personal assistant can use Makaton as the client uses this when he is struggling to communicate through speech.
Moving and Handling:
The client is independently mobile.
Client enjoys:
Café work, the police, you tube – he would like to create videos, visiting inclusive groups, spending time with his girlfriend.
Pets:
There are two large dogs at the property and two guinea pigs.

An Enhanced DBS is required for this role.
DBS paid for by funding authority, (if you don’t already have a certificate).
