Overall Purpose of the Job
We are seeking to appoint a full time Curator of Living Cultures who will care for the material culture, people, ideas, beliefs and relationships that are part of or connected to - Manchester Museum’s Living Cultures collections by bringing a diligent and engaging approach to building research and sharing knowledge around them. The role holder is expected to build equitable relationships with relevant originating and diaspora communities and develop the collections in a way which expresses the caring, imaginative and inclusive purpose of Manchester Museum, from progressing cases for repatriation and restitution to considering what decolonised contemporary curating practices might be. They will lead on provenance research across the whole collection with a particular strategic focus on collections from Africa, reconnecting them with living cultures. They will also create content and experiences from podcasts to co- curated exhibitions which are adventures in ideas, asking vital questions and connecting with audiences locally and globally.
