Job Description
A member of the UTAC Special Vehicles UK Team, this role is involved in delivering project work for UTAC Special Vehicles as well as providing global service & maintenance capability.
We are a project orientated business and see a large number of various project types; from small volume minor modification of OEM platforms through to larger volumes of Small Series Type Approved conversion activity. Most projects require elements of electromechanical and trim skillsets and typically involve stripping a car to BIW, installing and modifying electrical and mechanical systems and components before rebuilding. Tasks can also include off vehicle sub assembly, chassis development as well as bespoke installations of trim and electronic systems to the vehicle interior, working alongside UTAC SV’s engineering function in the design and development of future vehicle projects.
Primarily based at our Millbrook site in Bedford, when not deployed the FSR will carry out the duties of one of our senior technicians.
The Senior Technician element requires support to various projects in the development & build of prototype vehicles as well as series production activity to gain a complete understanding of the vehicles to be supported in service. As a Field Service Representative, the role will conduct support, inspection, maintenance and repair activity of Special Vehicles products around the world.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Work independently when modifying vehicle system to a very high standard
* Working in conjunction with Engineering, Team leaders and Technician Supervisors to champion and lead small scale production/prototype activities
* Assist Production engineering to define processes in order to ensure repeatable quality of output in a timely manner
* Diagnosis of complex vehicle mechanical & electrical faults at component and harness/wiring level and conduct and direct appropriate sanctioned rework to the required quality standard
* Lead the strip, modification and build of vehicles for the installation of bespoke in vehicle electrical, mechanical and structural systems
* Produce reports to record inspection, maintenance and repair activity, providing written and photographic evidence as required
* Focus on continuous improvement - working with the engineering and production leadership teams to improve efficiency/quality during build.
* Lead health and safety standards and behaviours
* Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC group staff at all times.
Person Specification
Experience
* Familiar with the design, assembly and operation of Civilian Armoured Vehicles (CAVs) in a variety of environments
* Broad knowledge of maintenance processes, policies, capabilities, practices, support resources and other elements required to effectively represent the business when overseas.
* Experience conducting maintenance operations and inspections in an MoD Equipment Support environment would be beneficial.
* Strong customer focus with the capacity to communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders in order to resolve problems.
* Effective collaboration with team members, other employees and external customers. Placing higher priority on team and organisation goals above personal goals is essential.
* Experience in the automotive field with prototype vehicle modification and repair required
Qualifications
Qualifications
* Formally trained with recognised L3 motor vehicle qualifications e.g. C & G, Institute of Motoring (IMI)
* MOT tester certified, or equivalent
