Role Overview
This role involves working primarily in residential settings to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to young people across various environments, including classrooms and off-site activities. The job focuses on enabling young people's development through physical and emotional support, working as part of a team to maintain a safe, happy, and caring environment prioritizing health, safety, and welfare. Key qualities include being a good role model and maintaining professionalism at all times, both during duties and at external events. The role also involves mentoring Support Workers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Build positive, professional relationships with young people and staff, and disengage appropriately.
2. Maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment, including domestic duties.
3. Promote and meet the specific needs of young people following policies and procedures.
4. Assist with medical and welfare needs, report as required, and participate in medical audits.
5. Monitor health conditions and maintain linked records.
6. Support young people's personal hygiene and appearance, including invasive care if trained.
7. Utilize communication systems effectively and attend meetings.
8. Serve as an effective Keyworker/Personal Tutor for assigned young people.
9. Support young people in managing their behavior using approved methods.
10. Promote equality, challenge discrimination, and uphold rights and responsibilities.
11. Safeguard young people from abuse and report concerns.
12. Prepare accurate reports and maintain records for monitoring.
13. Lead specific service development projects or areas.
14. Attend training and pursue qualifications relevant to the role.
15. Participate in activities during residential, leisure, and classroom settings to promote learning.
16. Work reliably and punctually, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and be prepared for overtime.
17. Assist with transitions between residential settings, liaising with relevant departments.
18. Stay updated on policies and procedures, sharing information with the team.
19. Be prepared to drive a minibus if required, holding a valid license and being over 21.
20. Ensure health and safety compliance, understanding hazards and contributing to a secure environment.
21. Undertake additional duties relevant to the position.
22. Understand and implement care standards within the setting.
23. Attend review meetings with young people and advocate for them as needed.
24. Plan and supervise routines, social, and recreational activities on and off-site.
25. Maintain activity planners and sign-in/out records for activities.
26. Provide constructive feedback to support workers and mentor them through supervision and appraisals.
27. Report promptly on matters affecting young people's well-being.
28. Lead shifts and conduct debriefs as required.
Person Specification
Applicants should demonstrate, through examples from previous experience, how they meet the following criteria:
* Effective debriefing skills.
* Qualification – Level 3 RQF certificate in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
* Ability to supervise Support Workers within a multidisciplinary team, including a Registered Manager, Team Manager, and Assistant Team Manager.
