A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.
After 1 August 2020, Education Authorities can only appoint the following categories of people as permanent Head Teachers:-
* People who have achieved the Standard for Headship.
* People appointed as permanent Head Teachers of a public school, a grant-aided school or an independent school on or before 1 August 2020.
A person who has not yet achieved the Standard for Headship may be appointed as a head teacher, provided the appointment does not exceed 30 months.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Head Teacher to join the team at Simpson Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare (ELC).
Simpson Primary and ELC’s vision is to strive to be the best you can be and this is at the heart of the work of the school.
Simpson Primary School and ELC is a non-denominational school serving Bathgate which is part of the Bathgate Academy Cluster. The school roll for session 2024-25 is currently 602 pupils, organised across 22 classes with 87 children within the ELC. In addition to the Class Teachers and Support for Learning Teacher, the management structure consists of a Head Teacher, 2 Depute Head Teachers and 2 Principal Teachers. The school is supported by a team of Pupil Support Workers that work across the school. ELC staffing will include; 2 Early Years Officer and 9 Early Years Practitioners.
The school has a strong community ethos and benefits from a supportive and proactive Parent Council. The Parent Council works in close partnership with the school and is committed to improving the work and life of the school as well as organising fundraising events throughout the school year.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate.
The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59 or Existing Member is £18.
