Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Neuromedical Physiotherapy Team in Brighton. The job combines a mixture of practical skills including working alongside qualified Physiotherapists assisting with patient treatments and rehabilitation and following treatment plans set by Physiotherapists. You will be working closely alongside the Physiotherapists and other members of the Multi-disciplinary team to ensure these patients receive the best possible care.
The role also entails supporting the administration component of the team including the cleaning and maintenance of equipment, data collection and inputting; IT skills will be required.
You must have good interpersonal and communication skills, enjoy working as part of a team, be able to take responsibility for new skills learned and be able to complete manual handling tasks. Experience of working in the caring profession and as part of a multi-disciplinary team is an advantage. The successful applicant will work as part of a supportive team and receive training and supervision as needed. An NVQ Level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support, Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience would be preferred.
Main duties of the job
· To assist the Physiotherapist, and to treat a delegated caseload of patients under protocol, who have previously been assessed by a physiotherapist.
· To maintain records according to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Trust standards.
· A Physiotherapy Assistant will be closely supervised by a Senior Physiotherapist and will have direct access to a Physiotherapist or suitably qualified clinician at all times.
· To participate in Physiotherapy weekend services/rotas as needed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Communication
* To use basic communication skills to encourage patients to undertake their treatment programme, including patients with communication and understanding difficulties, e.g. dementia, and seek guidance from the Physiotherapists when necessary.
* To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and therapy colleagues to ensure relevant information regarding patients’ status is reported back to the team.
* To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date patient-related documentation including POMR (Problem Orientated Medical Records) in line with legal and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy requirements.
* To gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work, with the guidance of a Physiotherapist, within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
Service Delivery and Improvement
* To be responsible for maintaining own personal development by actively participating in formal and informal departmental training programmes by attending in-service training sessions, delivering presentations, attending relevant courses and undertaking reflective practice.
* Attend regular mandatory and statutory training according to Trust policies.
* To participate in the staff appraisal scheme and Individual Development Plan (IDP) as an appraisee.
People Management and Development
* To provide basic spontaneous and planned advice and instruction to relatives, carers, and other professionals, regarding safety issues associated with mobility aids, according to departmental policy.
Patient Care Delivery
· To be responsible for providing safe and effective care to all patients whilst working within the Physiotherapy team.
· To be able to work effectively within their limits of practice, in a timely manner.
Person specification
Qualifications and experience
* Good level of English and Mathematics.
* Experience working as part of a team.
* Some experience of working with, and caring for people in a therapeutic environment, e.g. elderly.
* Experience working as a Physiotherapy Assistant, Health Care Assistant in the NHS.
