Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY:
Our Recovery Room is a 9-bedded unit within Main Theatres. This busy and dynamic unit admits Trauma, Maternity, Paediatrics, Emergency and General/Colorectal surgery patients.
* The successful post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
* To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care.
* To take the lead on delegated responsibilities as defined by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
* To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
* In the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ward.
* To manage a delegated group of Band 5 staff ensuring compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements.
* To ensure a positive focused service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
* To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

Experience
* Significant post registration experience of working in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of co-mentoring and assessing student nurses on placement
* Evidence of skills in managing junior staff
* Evidence of experience in conducting quality audits
Education & Professional Qualifications
* First level degree in nursing or working towards
* Evidence of post-registration education/qualification relevant to specialty
Skills and Attitudes
* Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty
* Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence
* Skilled in use of computer/keyboard
* Knowledge of clinical governance issues e.g. handling complaints, clinical risk management
