Position Overview
Part of Apollo, ISGI is the dedicated investment office for Athora and asset manager for third party insurance clients. Athora and other insurance clients are investing in excess of €10bn into “Return Seeking” (RS) assets managed by ISGI, comprised of various types of private debt and equity like investments, originated and underwritten by Apollo. The strategy invests through a value-oriented approach with a focus on consistent outperformance and capital preservation. Current investments span a broad range of strategies in credit, real assets and private equity. The ISGI RS team covers and supports these clients in selecting investments, providing analytics, reporting, educational material and ad hoc support as necessary to defend investment decisions and allocations. This role is core to enable the asset allocation that drives excess returns for clients, while managing economic drawdown and regulatory risk. The mindset required is one of ever improving the economics, insight and service we deliver as a team through dedication and a cross functional, collaborative approach with the broader ISGI team.
Primary Responsibilities
1. The role will stretch across all RS asset classes, with a focus on alternative investments. An initial focus will be placed on the private equity like investments, but involvement in credit over time will be essential.
2. Prepare and present summaries of new deals originated by Apollo to help the decision-making process, for the consumption of both internal stakeholders and clients.
3. Defend investment decisions made, coordinate necessary governance for efficient approvals and prepare investment and reporting material required to implement the investments within the regulatory framework (Solvency PPP).
4. Liaise internally with Apollo deal teams and support functions for new originations, information required and pushing our clients’ needs is an aspect that needs to be handled professionally.
5. The understanding, preparation and adjustment of investor reports and ad hoc responses for internal (management information) and external use (education, reporting, board materials) is a time-consuming part of the role.
6. Build constructive client relationships and provide service to our internal and external clients. Support our clients’ interactions with auditors, regulators, providing ad-hoc materials often in a time-constrained fashion.
7. Apply and develop analytics to track and project capital activity, returns, forecasting, capital consumption, drawdown risk, diversification and other metrics to construct portfolios comprised of private investments.
Qualifications & Experience
1. 3+ years relevant experience in investment functions within (i) a large insurance company, (ii) insurance asset management company, (iii) an investment bank within a insurance solutions or structuring group, (iv) a consulting firm specializing on insurance regulation or law or (v) alternative asset management group.
2. Previous experience with alternative investments / private investments is essential.
3. Understanding of fixed income principles and capital markets.
4. Understanding of Solvency II regulation, in particular the Standard Formula calculation and assessment for private assets. Ideally has gathered experience in documenting investment decisions against those frameworks and is aware of Prudent Person Principle (PPP) requirements.
5. Candidate must be able to defend investment proposals to clients, possess good presentation and interpersonal skills.
6. Self-starter with strong work ethic, willing to consistently go the extra mile.
