Vertical Recruitment is partnering with a well-established, leading multi-disciplinary independent private practice, founded in 1978, to recruit a Senior/ Principal Structural Engineer for their dynamic Manchester team.
This is a busy and varied role providing support to the local and Engineering teams on a wide range of projects, including structural surveys and structural designs for residential, commercial and industrial properties as well as providing advice to the insurance sector and assisting with our regional frameworks.
The Engineer is expected to support the Engineering Line Manager and is responsible for handling projects within own level of authority and providing training and guidance to supporting team members.
Responsibilities:
1. Undertaking of technical and feasibility studies including organising site investigations
2. Using a range of software to develop detailed structural designs as well as hand calculations
3. Liaising with clients and a variety of professionals including contractors and architects
4. Preparation of contract documents, management of tenders
5. Resolving design and development problems
6. Management of budget and project resources
7. Ensuring that all projects comply with legal requirements including CDM2015, Party wall, Listed buildings
8. Undertaking large value projects independently with sound knowledge on all aspects of professional consultancy services
9. Assessment of sustainability and environmental impact of projects
10. Contributing to the company’s marketing objectives, targets and initiatives
11. Assisting director with training and development of the engineering team
12. Inspection / Supervision of construction work on site under contract, preparation of interim and final accounts, claim and practical completion
13. Providing supervision and support to ICE/IStructE candidates to promote knowledge and understanding
14. Complying with the requirements of the Company’s administrative, personnel procedures and Health & Safety regulations
Candidate Attributes:
1. MICE / MIStructE / FICE Qualified
2. Experience and extensive working knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural & planning practices and procedures supported by an awareness of the latest statutory requirements, technical publications and guidelines
3. Experience in negotiation, supervisory and leadership roles
4. Experience in working to deadlines and within budgets on large scale projects
5. Sound mathematical, scientific and IT skills
6. The ability to think methodically and to manage projects
7. Problem-solving skills
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
