Job Description
Reporting to the Chief of Airworthiness, you will undertake a range of certification activities across multiple seating projects. Working directly with authorities, external (A)DOA and airframe manufacturers to deliver acceptable certification documents. Completing these activities in line with the programme and business requirements, these could include static, dynamic, flammability and environmental certification plans and reports, as well as supporting the generation of CMM’s/SB’s/TR’s/SIL’s to required industry standards. In addition to this, working across the engineering and manufacturing divisions of the business to ensure all designs, repairs and products delivered meet the certification and continued airworthiness requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Responsible for the substantiation and delivery of certification activity, across multiple projects in collaboration with the Authority (UK CAA), (A)DOA approved companies, airframe manufacturers and/or MROs (maintenance, repair organisations).
· Interpreting certification requirements and applying these to specific projects to achieve compliance with minimum risk and achieving maximum project efficiency
· Challenging the Authority (UK CAA) where appropriate in order to agree on an efficient route through certification
· Working with the design data and guidance materials to produce good quality and compliant documentation
· Take responsibility for progress of certification and technical publication documentation against project plan(s) to ensure documentations are available when expected and required by the milestone plan.
· Take responsibility to resolve certification issues, if any, during the certification campaign, while considering back-up plans in order to protect the schedule.
· Build strong relationships both internally, and externally with the Authority (UK CAA), aircraft manufacturers, (A)DOA approved companies, suppliers and customers (operator)
· Working across the engineering and manufacturing divisions of the business to deliver Certification programmes in-line with engineering and production schedules
· Working in collaboration with the Design Engineering teams to influence the design intent to achieve minimised certification risk.
· Ensuring all design and repairs completed and products delivered meet the certification and continued airworthiness requirements, without compromise to airworthiness and/or safety.
Skills and experience required.
Essential:
· An engineering degree
· Demonstrable experience of writing and reviewing test plans, reports and qualification documents.
· Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be computer literate.
· Must work well using their initiative.
· The ability to analyse and recommend a course of action and/or provide innovative solutions.
· Must be able to make clear and unambiguous decisions, passing these on in situations of extreme pressure.
· Must have the confidence and initiative to challenge others where necessary.
· Perform compliance verification tasks in relation to certification.
· Experience of authoring modification paperwork for an Aerospace application.
· The ability to travel for support and witnessing.
Highly Desirable:
· Previous experience of working in an Aerospace qualification / certification role
· Demonstrable experience of dealing with Aerospace authorities and airframe manufacturers
· Previous experience of structured problem solving methodology
· Experience of the certification process of aircraft cabin equipment
· Experience, knowledge and understanding of Aircraft Seating and the applicable regulatory guidance material
· Previous experience as a CVE for a part 21 (A)DOA
· Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
