Hydraulic Engineer/Technician Reporting to: Mechanical Team Leader Location: On site, Tyne and Wear Salary: Up to £43,500 per annum depending on experience Contract: Full time, permanent Prime Role & Duties: We are seeking a skilled Pipe and Hydraulic Technician with extensive experience in hydraulic and stainless-steel piping systems. The primary responsibility will be to ensure the effective installation, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic piping systems, with a focus on precision and quality control. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers and workshop technicians to meet project specifications and maintain high industry standards. Key Responsibilities: Technical Drawings: Interpret and utilise technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to ensure the accurate fabrication and installation of piping systems. Assembly: Perform the assembly of stainless-steel hydraulic piping systems, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and industry standards. Swagelok Expertise: Extensive experience with Swagelok pipework, fittings, valves, and associated systems, ensuring proper sealing, integrity, and functionality. Precision Pipe Fabrication: Measure, cut, thread, and bend piping systems using specialised tools and machinery, including pipe benders, threading machines, and band saws, to precise tolerances. Material Selection & Quality Control: Select appropriate materials based on technical specifications and conduct detailed inspections of pipes and fittings for quality assurance. Adhere to strict tolerances and specifications to ensure system integrity. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain precise records of installation dimensions, materials used, test results, and system configurations for quality control and compliance purposes. Update installation and maintenance logs after each project phase. Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to all relevant safety procedures and regulations. Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, quality control teams, and other technicians to coordinate efforts, troubleshoot system issues, and ensure seamless operations. Qualifications & Experience: Apprenticeship: Completion of a relevant apprenticeship in pipefitting, hydraulics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Training: Advanced training in pipe fitting, hydraulics, and related technical systems, pipe bending, and threading Experience: We will require a significant amount of hands-on experience in pipe fitting and hydraulic systems, specifically with stainless-steel piping and Swagelok fittings. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, hydraulic systems, pressure testing, and welding techniques. Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering documents, schematics, and piping diagrams. Additional Skills: Familiarity with modern pipework inspection tools (e.g., ultrasonic thickness gauges), pipe supports, hangers, and insulation methods is an advantage.
