Job Description
In the frame of nuclear plant construction, The Joint Design Organization (JDO) is an integrated team composed of teams from the Client, who leads the JDO, and Contractors who have carried out the detailed design studies. As part of its scope of delegation, JDO provides technical support at the nuclear site for the resolution of the various problems arising during the construction phases and later during the testing and commissioning operations.
Main Activities:
The position of “Steelwork (SW) engineer” aims at supporting the field design activities for the steelwork discipline on the Nuclear Island (NI) and mainly managing design modification or clarification raised before and during on-site construction.
The main responsibilities are as follows:
1. Producing steelwork platform designs compliant with the Eurocode3 and ETC-C, other relevant codes.
2. Liaising with the building layout and piping teams to coordinate the design.
3. Maintaining QA procedures in delivering the SW design.
4. Working with the CAD designers in the preparation of the design drawings/models.
5. Managing engineering changes in line with company procedures.
6. Liaising with colleagues in Paris.
7. Resolving identified technical issues.
8. Receiving, analysing and verifying the consistency of the input data.
9. Producing the deliverables for which they are responsible (assumption notes, technical specifications, calculation notes).
10. Coordinating CAD Design.
11. Performing design activities for fastenings and anchorages in concrete.
12. Developing substantiation reports and completing surveillance of applicable technical documents.
13. Performing technical verifications of civil engineering documents for their building.
14. Creating and maintaining the Design Risk Register.
Key Relationships:
Activities will be highly interfaced within JDO and other JDO teams. Note that, should the need arise, Back Office teams may also be solicited, i.e., interfaces expected with client teams in Bristol and Paris.
Qualifications
Qualifications and experience:
1. Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.
2. Experience in the management of transverse technical topics.
3. Experience in steelwork design is a bonus.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills, conscientiousness, organisation, and writing ability.
5. Good organizational, writing, and oral expression skills in English are essential for the realization of the activities of document production, steering, and interfaces with the various correspondents.
6. Ability to prioritise, manage numerous interfaces, question and understand the imperatives of other downstream/interfacing disciplines, and meet commitments and deadlines.
Knowledge and technical skills:
Essential:
1. Steelwork engineer with experience in design of structures in the nuclear industry or with experience on subjects at the interface between design and construction.
2. Experience in calculation notes preparation and mechanical behaviour.
3. Knowledge of Eurocode 2 and understanding of safety requirements.
4. Knowledge of 2D and 3D design software.
5. Knowledge of FEA design software.
6. Experience working in a multicultural environment.
Desirable:
1. Knowledge of the HPC project or previous EPR and associated studies/doctrine.
2. Previous experience in Edvance and/or with EDF-Framatome processes, with a particular emphasis on Engineering Sequence and Quality procedures (P3).
3. For 2D and 3D design software: Navisworks, PDMS, TEKLA, AUTOCAD (or knowledge in similar 3D, 2D software application).
4. For FEA design software: RSTAB knowledge (or similar 3D SW calculation software).
