This apprenticeship post within the podiatry service in NEE will support the delivery of a variety of assessment and interventions to support and manage patients with foot pathology needing NHS podiatry. You will start the role as an assistant and receive local induction to be able to support care of patients in the service assisting a podiatrist, before starting the BSc Podiatry programme. During the 4 years of the programme you will receive teaching in university and practical experience and supported learning within the department. On successful completion of the BSc course you will be able to apply to join the HCPC register. As this is a development post, on gaining HCPC registration you will be uplifted to a band 5 Podiatrist. Please be aware the University is located in East London, and you will be required to attend in person as per the timetable set by the University. Travel costs will be reimbursed.
Clinical care will be delivered mainly in clinics initially but may involve home visits. The service works over multiple sites; you will need to be able to travel to them. You may need to attend locations outside NE Essex when on placement with other providers.
Main duties of the job
1. Be proactively engaged in attaining and demonstrating the knowledge, skills and behaviours as outlined within the apprenticeship standards.
2. The education and training is expected during time spent with employer, on placement and at the university.
3. To assist the Podiatrists in the treatment of clients as required.
4. To continue the treatment of clients as delegated by the Podiatrist, working without direct supervision at times, reporting back to the Podiatrist.
5. To undertake skilled support work without direct supervision or presence of a Podiatrist.
6. To assist the Podiatrists with challenging clients or those with complex needs who require more than one person to treat.
7. Instruct clients and carers, providing direction and guidance on a range of Podiatry interventions independently where directed by a Podiatrist.
8. To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with clients, relatives and carers. This will include clients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE English Grade 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in English
* GCSE Mathematics Grade 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics
* A Levels in at least three subjects (one of which must be science-based) with minimum Grade B
Knowledge
* Understanding of the scope of the role of the Podiatrist in the NHS
* Experience of multi-disciplinary and interagency working
* Previous experience of working within a health/care setting
