JOB TITLE: HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY
REPORTS TO: MANAGING DIRECTOR
LOCATION: Hybrid, required to be in Great Yarmouth Head Office 1 day/week
HOURS: Full time – 40 hours per week
JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's technology including development, infrastructure, and strategy, and delivering on the Microsoft Azure cloud adoption vision. This includes managing the development and implementation of new technologies, ensuring systems are robust, scalable, and secure — aligning with technical best practices.
The role involves delivering code changes and writing code alongside managing the team — approximately a 60:40 split.
Shaping the product roadmap to support business growth and leading a team of technology professionals, including Developers and Test Engineers. Act as the subject matter expert for technical inquiries, responding clearly and appropriately to both technical and non-technical employees to resolve issues or agree on actions.
The Head of Tech is part of the Leadership team, reporting directly to the MD, and collaborates with other department heads and external stakeholders to align technology initiatives with the company's overall goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Develop and implement application changes, including writing code.
2. Define and deliver the company's technology strategy and technical roadmap.
3. Lead the Azure cloud adoption initiative (already underway).
4. Oversee the design, development, and implementation of technology solutions.
5. Ensure security and integrity of the company's technology infrastructure.
6. Establish and enforce technology policies to ensure compliance and data protection.
7. Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance efficiency.
8. Promote cloud adoption and upskill the team.
9. Manage and support a team of Developers and Test Engineers.
10. Prioritize and allocate work to align with company strategy.
11. Collaborate across departments to identify technology needs.
12. Work with the MD to maintain ISO27001 Certification, including a tested Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
13. Assist in sales proposals requiring technical input.
REQUIRED SKILLS
* 10+ years’ experience in software development.
* 5+ years’ experience managing technology teams.
* Experience delivering software solutions in Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
* Knowledge of infrastructure as code solutions like Terraform (advantageous).
* Broad understanding of infrastructure, including SQL Server databases and Windows OS.
* Ability to review and advise team members on relevant technologies.
* Proven leadership and motivation skills, using modern methodologies.
* Proficient in server setup, relational databases (MySQL), and operating systems.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
* Full UK driving license and willingness to travel.
* Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills.
