We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and driven building surveyor who is keen to develop their career. You will be responsible for the day to day management of your team to ensure projects are delivered within agreed budget and programme and to a high quality. This includes providing technical support and mentoring to staff, as well as communicating with the client, other consultants and colleagues to ensure a brief is agreed and adhered to in the delivery of projects whilst developing client relationships. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the implementation of the business goals and strategy in support of the directors.

Responsibilities of the role
* Management of a team to meet business objectives
* Agree schedule of services and prepare fee proposals for projects
* Monitor and coordinate the workload of team members to meet project deadlines and deliver the project within the agreed fee
* Ensure technical design information including drawings, calculations, specifications and reports are delivered to a high technical standard and compliant with the agreed schedule of services
* Review and approve reports or designs, drawings, sketches and calculations in accordance with quality procedures
* Mentor and support members of the team
* Carry out performance and career appraisal for team members
* Liaise effectively with clients and other design team members
* Monitor and maintain technical and financial control of projects
* Prepare bids and proposals
* Monitor the work of the team with regards to existing working practices, methods and procedures, and personally adhere to said practices
* Assist with delivering and development of ‘best practice’
* Assist with developing and implementing business strategies
* Proactive in self-development
* Assist in the identification of business development opportunities
* Deliver agreed business development targets
* Assist the marketing department
* Prepare for and participate in the management of resources
* Where required, participate in the recruitment and interview process for new staff
* Input into the preparation of monthly financial reports
* Obtain formal client instruction and purchase orders where required
* Accurately complete invoicing sheets to allow invoicing on a monthly basis
* Coordinates design to the brief and approves information deliverables.
* Develops the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP) and manage the availability of competent resources to execute project.
* Review the information produced by the Task Team against the brief to ensure that the information deliverables are consistent with the required Suitability Code.
* Identify and communicate risks associated with the information issue to the delivery team.
* Review information deliverables ensuring that the information produced by the Task Team is compliant with the Project SMP (standard method and procedure) prior to being shared.
* A proven track record in a senior role or a university degree in building surveying, MRICS/FRICS qualified
* Experienced in leading and managing teams
* Experienced in delegating and supervising work of team members
* Experienced in acting as mentor to junior team members
* Experience in the diagnosis of building defects
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Proactive approach to work
* Commitment to continual improvement at a personal, professional and company level
* Ability to work within the ISO 19650 environment and associated processes
* Understanding of financial reporting systems
* Experience acting as expert witness
Technical
* Conversant in traditional and modern building methods and building types
* Conversant in the use of traditional and historic building materials
* Conversant with building regulation standards
* Conversant with Party Wall Award, landlord and tenant building contracts
* Excellent understanding of CDM regulations
* Able to use computer design software packages an advantage but not essential
* Experience in new build projects
* Experience in refurbishment projects
* Experience in contract administration procedures
* Experience in specification writing
* Experience in party wall awards and dilapidation schedules
* Conversant with JCT building contracts
* Excellent construction knowledge
* Excellent experience in undertaking building surveys on buildings of variety of ages, type and condition
* Able to develop different design solutions and appraise those produced by others
* Good understanding of contractual obligations

* Able to identify and define construction problems
* Able to identify alternative building solutions and appraise these to identify the most appropriate to satisfy the client’s brief
* Able to identify and control technical and commercial risk
Communication
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Able to produce accurate and clear sketches to communicate construction solutions
* Experience in the production of specifications, schedules and technical reports and feasibility studies
Relationship Building
* Able to build positive team spirit across teams and project groups
* Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships
* Experienced in business development and managing client relationships
