Ward 8A is a 29 bedded unit, which specialises in Gastroenterology and Endocrinology.
The Ward Receptionist is an integral member of the ward team who acts as an interface between the unit, hospital services, patients, families and the public.
To perform clerical duties to assist with the smooth running of Ward 8A.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide a friendly and informative first contact within the unit, undertaking reception duties, dealing with hospital staff, visitors and members of the public in an efficient, polite and courteous manner, answering queries, and communicating complex information where there may be barriers to understanding.
2. General telephonist responsibilities, dealing with telephone enquiries, communicating effectively with the ward team, patients, families and visitors, as well as other hospitals and transport teams whilst maintaining patient confidentiality.
3. Prioritise workloads - responding to emergency factors and situations effectively.
4. Inputting and updating details on the Careflow system in a timely way, e.g. registering patients, producing, tracking and retrieving notes.
5. Transfer & discharge of patients ensuring that all details are correct.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Basic general secondary education
* ECDL or other computer qualification
Previous Experience
* Previous experience in customer services
* Good written, verbal and IT communication skills
* Willing to undertake training
* Able to work in a demanding busy environment
* Flexible and adaptable
* Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda.
* Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework: Patient Centred, Safety, Compassion, Respect, Excellence.
