Consultant
Job overview
We are looking to recruit a Colorectal Consultant to join our forward-thinking Department. The aim of this appointment is to continue the quality of the Colorectal Service and the delivery of care across the trust due to increased demand. The postholder will be based in Grimsby General Hospital but will be expected to deliver care across all Trust sites. This post will support the Colorectal Service including on-call commitments for General Surgery.
The successful post holder will have the opportunity to be appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School (HYMS). This honorary appointment is in recognition of contribution to teaching and research.
Main duties of the job
Enthusiastic surgical colleagues are invited to apply for this Consultant post which is being advertised with a view to finding the right candidate to fill an existing vacancy in the Colorectal Department. This is suitable for a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon who has experience in colorectal surgery and endoscopy skills. The unit provides elective and emergency general surgery, upper gastrointestinal, general and colorectal surgery, including cancer, and a JAG accredited endoscopy unit.
This post will maintain the efficiency and capacity of the Department, and aid the recovery of waiting times following COVID.
Applications are sought from candidates who will help deliver Colorectal Surgery in both emergency and elective settings. The appointee will join the current team of surgeons where there is a tradition of support for consultant colleagues.
The unit currently runs a 1 in 6 or 1:7 consultant of the week duty rota on each of the Trust main sites responsible for emergency admissions.
Working for our organisation
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust is part of one of the largest acute and community Group arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.
As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.
We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our Group and our community.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post would suit a good team player dedicated to high quality patient care. The opportunity exists to work in a non-hierarchical setting and offer a wide range of general surgical procedures in this busy DGH.
The postholder will be required to create effective relationships with clinical colleagues as well as members of the management team. Senior management is supportive of the service and related opportunities for development.
The appointee will be required to deliver high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department.
The Consultant on call rota will be a 1:6 or 1:7 basis with internal cover between Consultants for annual leave, lieu and study leave. No elective duties are scheduled whilst on call.
As a Trust we are keen to offer and encourage flexible working opportunities to address health and wellbeing and work-life balance for our employees.
