SENIOR PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL ENGINEER Contract Position - Long Term Warrington 3 days office / 2 days home We are recruiting a Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer to author Mechanical Design Substantiation Reports which will underpin the design of the various process systems. Our client is currently producing the design of the Process Plant and Equipment (PP&E) to deliver an enduring manufacturing capability for a key customer in the defence industry. Acting as an Intelligent Client (IC) on behalf of the customer, you will liaise with the suppliers of professional services and equipment vendors to ensure consistency and standardisation in the design of the process systems. MECHANICAL ENGINEER ROLE: The role will be responsible for reviewing and producing substantiation reports to build the required evidence to support the Safety Case. You will contribute to the delivery of Work Pack 3 by: Interrogating the Engineering Schedule and evidencing claims made against Systems, Structures, and Components (SSC) in the documentation. Reviewing the updated designs inline with the Safety Case Documentation to identify any shortfalls Assess quality of substantiation evidence and identify where supplementary or supporting evidence is required Authoring nuclear substantiation documentation, including Design Substantiation Reports (DSR) providing the assurance and evidence to enable confidence in our technical solutions. Liaising with both internal and external designers and equipment vendors to gather information. Interfacing with other stakeholders such as Human Factors, Fire Safety, Criticality, Radiological and the client Technical Authority. MECHANICAL ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES: Input to, and creation of, the WP3 Design Substantiation Reports using appropriate templates. Checking and assessing the Design hubs substantiation documentation to select the required detail to address the Safety Functional Requirement. Provide feedback to the design teams and Project Engineering managers on any shortfalls in the substantiation. Detail and agree any further work required to fully substantiation the systems SSFRs with the relevant PEMs and PMs. Providing feedback and information to the Safety Case leads to ensure documentation and evidence is suitable QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Engineering qualification related to Engineering Design Several years experience working in design engineering. Ideally hold a degree in relevant Engineering Discipline. Ideally Chartered or working towards Held similar position in the production, or review of, design substantiation documentation Questioning attitude, confident to challenge information where needed. Fully familiar with all aspects ofsafety casemethodologies and legal framework relevant to nuclear safety. Good Understanding of Safety Case involvement and development for highly regulated industries. Good oral and written communication skills, including presentation and report writing.
