Responsibilities:
1. Hearings: As a panel member, you will attend hearings to review detention/Community Treatment Orders following an initial period of training. After gaining experience and attending additional training, members will be invited to chair review panels, ensuring compliance with the MHA 1983 (amended 2007) and Code of Practice.
2. Ensure the grounds for continuing detention or community treatment are valid.
3. Formally record the evidence considered by the panel, the reasons for the decision, and the decision itself.
4. Communicate the reasons for the decision to the patient and relevant parties.
5. Record any appropriate recommendations and/or comments arising from hearings.
Training and Meetings:
1. Attend training sessions and quarterly meetings to develop relevant knowledge and understanding, including updates to legislation and current practice.
2. Provide feedback and report any issues of concern to the Hospital Manager, Mental Health Act Office, and Chair of the Hospital Managers Hearing Panel.
3. Participate in the annual appraisal process.
Communication:
1. Maintain appropriate relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team and Mental Health Act Office.
2. Communicate sensitively and effectively with service users.
3. Engage with a wide range of health service personnel, including clinicians, nursing, medical & social care professionals, and outside agencies.
4. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with GDPR and Priory Group policies and procedures.

1. Ability to scrutinise, interpret, and appropriately challenge complex information presented both orally and in written report format.
2. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Ability to write clear and concise records.
4. Demonstrate total commitment to confidentiality and set guidelines.
5. Computer skills and access to a PC.
6. Some knowledge and awareness of legislation associated with the MHA 1983.
7. Ability to work well with others.

Expenses:
This position will pay £60 per session and mileage at 45p per mile.
