A Senior Care Assistant plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to residents in care homes, nursing homes, or domiciliary care settings. They oversee care assistants, ensure the well-being of residents, and assist with personal care and medication administration while maintaining high standards of care.
Key Responsibilities: ? Supervising Care Staff:
Leading and supporting a team of care assistants to deliver person-centered care.
Providing guidance and training to junior staff members.
Ensuring all care duties are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
? Personal Care & Support:
Assisting residents with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and toileting.
Supporting mobility and encouraging independence wherever possible.
Offering emotional and social support to residents.
? Medication Administration:
Administering and managing prescribed medication in accordance with policies and guidelines.
Keeping accurate records of medication distribution.
? Health & Safety Compliance:
Ensuring infection control measures and health & safety regulations are followed.
Monitoring residents health conditions and reporting any concerns to healthcare professionals.
? Record Keeping & Reporting:
Maintaining accurate care records, updating care plans, and reporting any changes in residents' conditions.
Communicating effectively with nurses, doctors, and family members regarding residents' well-being.
? Promoting Dignity & Respect:
Ensuring residents feel valued and respected at all times.
Encouraging social activities and engagement to enhance well-being.
Key Skills & Requirements: ? Experience in a care assistant or similar role (typically 1+ years)
? NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards it)
? Knowledge of medication management and personal care procedures
? Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
? Empathetic, patient, and passionate about elderly and vulnerable peoples well-being
? Understanding of safeguarding and infection control policies
