Job Description
Purpose of the job: To work with the Group Coordinator to ensure the smooth running of social and therapeutic horticulture and arts and craft groups on the allotment. To take the lead on recruiting, supporting, and managing volunteers for this group.
The post is for 16 hours each week, Tuesday and Thursdays 9am till 4pm. The additional 2 hours may be flexible as agreed with the Director to meet support needs of volunteers, complete paperwork, meet with senior staff and the wider staff team.
The salary is £26,500 per annum pro rata which is £11,872 for a 16 hour week. We offer 10% pension contributions and a holiday allowance of 25 days plus 8 bank holidays, pro rata for a 12 hour week.
The post is supported day to day by the group coordinator and line managed by the Director.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Work with the Group Coordinator to plan and run the gardening groups and related craft activities.
2. Lead the group in the absence of the Group Coordinator.
3. Have an active presence in the groups, supporting members with gardening tasks, arts and crafts, and cooking where required. Provide a non-judgmental listening ear for members who need one.
4. Share responsibility with the group coordinator for the health and safety of members, volunteers, and visitors to the site.
5. Manage the volunteer team, taking volunteer applications, meeting with potential volunteers, carrying out volunteer checks including DBS, and inducting new volunteers to the groups. Offer ongoing support to the volunteers, including group support at the morning briefing and individual support if required. Ensure volunteers have access to training where required, and work with the Director and Group Coordinator to facilitate regular volunteer meetings.
6. Plan refreshments, including lunch with available allotment produce. Shop for additional ingredients and cook for members, volunteers, and staff.
7. Work as part of a team and value other team members including volunteers.
8. Help maintain the allotment site and all tools and equipment.
9. Contribute to discussions about the development of the horticultural therapy programme and group sessions.
10. Take an active interest in the well-being of group members, contribute to reviews, and assist in monitoring and recording information about members, informing senior staff of any concerns.
11. Attend planning meetings with other Greenfingers group workers, and contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the allotment site.
12. Help plan group outings including health and safety assessments and support members on the day.
13. Meet with the senior staff for support and review when required.
14. Work within SAGE’s policies and procedures as set out in the staff handbook.
15. Undertake any other tasks which may be reasonably required as directed by Group Coordinator or senior staff.
