(Associate) Scientific Editor, Cancer Cell
Cancer Cell is a flagship cancer and oncology journal at Cell Press. We are hiring a scientific editor that will be based in one of Elsevier’s European offices. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in clinical oncology and/or cancer research. Previous editorial experience is not a requirement; however, we are open to considering candidates for the Scientific Editor level if they possess sufficient relevant editorial experience.
Responsibilities
* Assessing submitted research papers and making editorial recommendations;
* Providing outstanding author service and overseeing the peer review process;
* Establishing relationships with researchers through outreach to the scientific and clinical communities and recruiting exciting research;
* Commissioning and editing Review articles, as well as other front matter;
* Commissioning and creating content for the journal homepage, blog and social media outlets;
* Traveling to scientific conferences and academic institutes;
* Working collaboratively with the editorial teams and with academic Advisory Board members;
* Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond;
* Strengthening and building the visibility and reputation of the journal;
* Organizing scientific conferences and contributing to Cell Press growth and innovation projects.
What we are looking for
* A PhD or an equivalent degree (such as MD in some countries) in clinical oncology or cancer research;
* A talent and passion for clear scientific communication;
* Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
* Proven strong and global research networks and connections;
* Great time management and organizational skills;
* Critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research;
* The ability to work successfully both independently and in a diverse global team.
This is a full-time editorial position based in our Cell Press office in London or Oxford in UK, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Berlin or Frankfurt in Germany, or Madrid in Spain.
